Prompt: H/C bingo, "Headaches"
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: Simple reasons for Trombley's seizure
Fandom: Generation Kill

The Doc moved a flashlight in front of Trombley's eyes quickly and the younger man squinted away from it. “Have you had migraines before?”

“Yes, sir,” Trombley answered out of reflex, even though the old man wasn't technically his superior. Brad was, though, and he was standing over them, worriedly keeping guard.

“Has it ever been this bad?”

Trombley was silent for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts. His head pounded and he only remembered bits and pieces of what had happened after the headache-- migraine-- had made itself known. He didn't remember the events leading up to the seizure, didn't remember the convoy having to stop, and had only vague recollections of the ride back to base camp. He knew that the doc had stayed right by his side and that Brad was driving like he had a baby in the backseat instead of a nineteen year-old who was fully able to take care of himself. Then, there was the state of everyone else when they reached base camp. It was silent, more quiet than it had ever been, and he was acutely aware of everyone's eyes on him. If they called him psycho before, he could only imagine what they thought now. It made his head pound even more, and he turned his head into the makeshift pillow of the makeshift bed.

The doc asked again, quieter and more subdued than before, “Has it ever been this bad?”

“Once or twice, in high school. I usually took something before it got this bad,” Trombley answered, worrying now whether he'd be taken off of active duty, away from his team.

“Is this the first time you've had a seizure because of the migraine?”

“Is that what happened?” Trombley asked, genuinely confused. That would explain the lack of memory surrounding how he got here.

“Yes, son. Is this the first time you've had a seizure?” The doc had already pretty well pieced together what happened, but he needed confirmation.

“Yes, sir.” Trombley waited a moment before speaking what was really on his mind. “Am I going to be removed from action?”

Brad had been scanning the area outside of their tent, but after hearing this, his head shot back towards Trombley. The doc looked between the two of them, his eye contact lingering on Brad for a long while before he answered. “Not this time. This time, we can keep this under wraps. No one outside of your team, Espera, Fick, and Schwetje knows what happened, so I'm sure we can deal with it right now. If it happens again, it'll be a problem, for now, it should be okay if you let me know about your migraines. Understood?”

“Yes, sir,” Brombley answered. His head still felt like it was going to explode and the light was making it worse, so he turned his head back towards the pillow again. He heard the doc tell him something through the pain, but before he could process what it was, he felt a prick on the back of his arm and sleep overtook him.
