“Why is a white lie different than a lie?” Peter asked, laying on his stomach on Nathan’s bed, head tilted to the side in confusion.
“It’s making people feel better.” Nathan said, distractedly, busy getting ready for the party they were going to.
“But, it’s still lying, isn’t it? How does it make them feel better? I know I don’t feel better when I get lied to.” Peter asked quickly, still not understanding why it was okay for Nathan to lie to their mother.
Nathan heaved a sigh. “Sometimes, people don’t want the truth. So, you tell them what they want to hear.”
Peter still looked confused, but he frowned and said, “Well, I’m not gonna lie to Mommy. That is a pretty dress.”
"And, that's what you need to keep telling her." Nathan said, glad that the five year-old didn't have the same opinion as him.
