Warnings: None
Summary: “It's okay. He has a migraine. Your mother used to get them all the time.”

The headaches started out as minor problems here and there. Jaime had never had migraines before and didn't see why they would start now. Over time, they had grown in size, and he thought they were stress headaches or sinus headaches or maybe even allergies. Either way, he had written them off as normal run-of-the-mill headaches for a rookie cop.

It wasn't until he was sitting at dinner, arguing with Danny, that this particular headache got worse. He was trying to back out, trying to get the argument to stop, letting Danny win, regretting even saying anything to set him off, when the pain hit full force. His first reaction was to cup the side of his head in his hand, but stopped when he saw his father and grandfather exchanging glances. “Just drop it, Danny!” It didn't sound like a plea, so he just stood up from the table and started walking away from the table. His niece and nephews were at the table and he didn't want them to see him in pain.

“Hey, where you going?” Danny yelled after him, and he heard the screech of his chair moving against the floor. It was the combination of those two things that caused the headache to go into full force. He dropped to his knees, pushing both hands against the sides of his head to stop the rush of pain and keep the world from spinning, and tried to keep from vomiting.

Danny had stopped mid-step when he saw Jaime hit the floor, and their father ran to comfort his youngest. Frank knelt down in front of Jaime, putting his forehead against Jaime's and whispered to him, asking what was wrong. While the rest of the family watched frozen where they'd been, Jaime quietly said, “It's just a headache.”

He was shaking, his voice coming through as weak and a little disoriented, and Danny wiped his hand across his mouth, wishing he had dropped the argument when Jaime wanted to. Jaime probably had the headache earlier, but he couldn't have made it any better.

Erin put her fork down as quietly as possible, moved her chair out without it scratching the floor, and tiptoed over to her younger brother. Putting one arm across his back, she knelt down next to him, offering support. “Do you want to go lay down upstairs or on the couch?”

Jaime tried to shake his head out of habit, but that only made it worse. His body slumped and he fainted against his sister. “Dad!” Erin exclaimed, holding Jaime's head, which had fallen back on her arm limply. He was boneless in her arms, and she cradled him to her chest.

“It's okay. He has a migraine. Your mother used to get them all the time.” He moved around so that he could pick Jaime up in his arms, and carried his youngest up to what had been his room while he was growing up as the rest of the family watched in shock.
